School Enrichment and After School

School enrichment programs allow youth to receive 4-H Youth Development Program curricula or other educational materials in a group or classroom during school hours. 4-H also provides training for teachers in a variety of topics, ranging from positive youth development to effective learning models and methods to specific curriculum.

Career Planning – A Kernel of an Idea Can Grow into a Harvest of Possibility Thinking about your interests, your preferences, things you enjoy doing, and looking at options available to you for learning and gaining additional education are all part of career planning.

One of the best websites in Oregon to read about careers is the Oregon Career Information System at oregoncis.uoregon.edu. On Oregon CIS, you can take a survey to help you match your interests to different careers, read detailed information about various careers, read testimonials from people working in jobs, and learn where you can go to get additional education after high school that you may need to qualify for your future job.

Field to Fork Program

Field to Fork' a 4-H School Enrichment Program, is a program coordinated with school personnel that uses select 4-H learning materials in an effort to connect youth to local food access and help them understand where their food comes from,

The goal was to increase the awareness and knowledge of agriculture and the role it plays in the lives of young people in Baker County. Through Farm to Fork, area youth from schools and community groups came to the extension office to learn more about how their food grows and gets to their tables at home.

Since the pilot project, Farm to Fork has been promoted in school classrooms and community youth programs encouraging youth to participate in hands-on farm experiences. Groups participate in farm- and food-topic-related workshop stations. The topics of these stations include: growing, harvesting, production, transportation, water resources and other farm-based activities.
