Biography
Robin Maille is an Associate Professor of Practice with Extension Family and Community Health and manages programming in both Union and Baker counties. Robin has worked with OSU Extension since 2009 and has focused her work on community food systems with an emphasis on food security and garden-based nutrition education. Recently she has been expanding her skills and programming in trauma-informed care, community resiliency, and promoting mental well-being. She is part of the OSU Coast to Forest Project team which works with local partners to promote mental health and substance use prevention.
Robin participates in the Local Community Health Partnership groups, the Union County Emergency Preparedness Coalition, and the Union County Safe Communities Coalition. She served on the La Grande School Board from 2015-2023.
She received her BA in Comparative Sociology from the University of Puget Sound, a Master’s degree in Forestry from Yale University, and an MA in Secondary Science Education from West Virginia University. She also completed a Graduate Certificate in Public Health at Oregon State University.
Prior to moving to La Grande Robin worked with West Virginia University (WVU) Extension Service in Families & Health, as well as Forestry Outreach, and WVU Division of Forestry & Natural Resources. She taught middle school and high school science for two years in West Virginia and she and her husband Peter operated an eco-friendly country bed and breakfast inn for seven years. She also worked with the USDA Forest Service International Programs office for eight years as staff and then as a consultant. Over the years Robin has worked on research projects in the field and in the lab looking at water quality, wetland ecosystems, and non-timber forest product use. Robin was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal, West Africa working with agroforestry projects.
