Master Gardeners are highly-educated volunteers who shares their sustainable gardening knowledge with their communities through education and outreach programs. Master Gardener training classes are taught by OSU Extension agents and horticultural experts. The program offers basic, practical courses in plant science and home horticulture.

Potential Master Gardeners are not required to have a gardening experience but rather the yearning and motivation to learn and to garden. There are no prerequisites to participate course, although a basic understanding of plants is helpful.
There are two options for the training: in-person or online.
In Wasco County, the in-person Master Gardener training typically happens in February and March of each year. Applications typically go out in November for the following year. If you'd like to sign up to receive this year's application, contact Kendal Johnson, or sign up for our monthly e-news.
If the timing of the in-person training doesn't work for you, a remote learning option is an excellent alternative.
Students must agree to pay back the hours of classroom instruction they receive with an equivalent amount of gardening-related volunteer service. Wasco County Master Gardeners and Master Gardener Trainees have until October to complete their volunteer hours. These hours may include:
