Wasco County 4-H Fair Information

Fair is a busy time for all and below are some things to help you be successful in getting ready for this crowning event!

Take some time to get familiar with all of the general and livestock rules associated with the fair for exhibiting and selling. Some rules have changed this year, so definitely take time to read these through.

Participation in fair is not mandatory. However, if you do decide to exhibit at fair, you must complete a SEPARATE entry form for fair that is due in our office before Tuesday, July 16th by 4 pm. Late entries will not be accepted. Your original 4-H enrollment does not automatically enter you in fair.

Each year, we hold a "Prepare for Fair" event for parents, youth and leaders to explain what will happen at fair, any changes you need to be aware of, and time to ask any questions you may have for your barn or building superintendent, 4-H Coordinator or 4-H Administrative Program Assistant about fair entries.

Prepare for Fair Event for Parents, Youth, and Leaders:

This year we are trying something new! Mark your calendar's for Tuesday, July 9, 2024, in the 3rd Floor Lecture Hall of CGCC (One Floor above the Extension Office in Building 2) for a Prepare for Fair Drop-In Event! Talk to Barn and Building Superintendents on what is expected of exhibitors, learn about rule changes this year, turn in your fair entries, and much more! Event starts at 6 pm.

Interested in being a Junior Superintendent at fair this year?

If you are a youth in grades 9th-12th and would love to be more involved in fair, sign up to be a Junior Superintendent!

Junior Supers are an invaluable part of fair! Complete the application by the deadline.

Applications are due by 4pm on TUESDAY, July 16th! Don't forget to include a letter of recommendation from someone other than a family member.

This is a great opportunity to be more involved, get a "behind the scenes" look at fair and give back to your community!

NEW THIS YEAR:

  • "Celebrate our World" classes will be in their own section of the fair book. The part of the world that youth will be focusing on for these exhibits is Central America!
  • Look for new and updated classes in Clothing and Sewing, Fiber Arts, Photography, and Food and Nutrition, Table setting, and more.
  • Be sure to READ the rules--lots of updates! You are responsible for knowing the rules for your project and the fair in general.

VITAL INFORMATION

*Animal Science Records will need to be checked before the office will accept a fair entry from the youth. These records must be up-to-date when checked. They do not need to be closed or signed by a leader (records are closed and leader’s sign off at the end of the 4-H year, September 30th.)

HEARTH Static Exhibits

Turn in all static exhibits on Tuesday, August 13th from 8 am to 12 pm at the 4-H Exhibit Building. Use this exhibit checklist to ensure you have the correct explanation card (or look in the fair book). Use our local fair book to determine county entry limits.

All HEARTH projects require an exhibit tag and often an explanation card. You should arrive at fair with your projects ready to go--meaning that all of these should be true:

  • Exhibit should be labeled with Exhibitor name, Class number, and County
  • Completed Exhibit Tag with Class Number should be attached
  • Completed Explanation Card for your exhibit should be attached if required.

Find the explanation cards you need for your exhibits. If you do not have the ability to print these at home, they are available for pickup in the Extension Office until one week prior to fair. Again, these should be completed and brought with you to fair--not at fair.
