4-H Mission

4-H started as a way to get agricultural research into the hands of kids across the United States—particularly those who live in rural counties. 4-H recognized the openness, engagement, and curiosity natural to all children, and has been dedicated to connecting them to opportunities for learning ever since.

4-H is part of cooperative extension, a network of over 50 universities across the country, which means we have access to and work with research from the best of the best of community educators around the nation.

Cooperative Extension is a nationwide, non-credit educational network that addresses public needs by providing non-formal higher education and learning activities to everyone, not just those lucky enough to live in close proximity to a world-class university.

4-H Motto

Our motto is “Learn by doing,” and we practice that every day. 4-H projects come in all shapes and sizes—some kids make jewelry, strengthening their critical thinking skills and coordination. Others build rockets, learning and applying physics in a fun, challenging way.

Everything we do in 4-H is centered on making the best parts of our kids—their natural curiosity, kindness, and leadership—even better.

Interested in joining 4-H?

There are lots of fun things you can learn in 4-H! You can learn about animals, computers, public speaking, cooking, art, gardening and environmental sciences, and more. You can get involved by joining a club, attending a camp, or participating in other fun activities and events.
