Innovations by Hong Liu, a biological engineer at OSU, can use almost any organic waste to produce electricity, including leftovers from wine, beer and dairy industries. Bacteria break down organic matter and in the process produce electrons that run from anode to cathode, treating an electric current and cleaning the water.
