The Dalles Imagination Garden (The DIG)

What is The DIG?

The DIG is a colorful, engaging, user-friendly, educational garden that stimulates the interest and imagination of children and their families. Master Gardeners and 4-H teach workshops for the community, hold camps for kids, and maintain an interesting exploration environment for families.

The DIG earned the Marje Luce Search for Excellence Award in 2011.

The DIG is located at the intersection of Klindt Drive and Steelhead Way, along the riverfront trail in the Port District of The Dalles.

Mornings at The DIG

Mornings at The DIG is a workshop series led by Master Gardeners on topics such as Fall & Winter Gardening, Rhubarb: Growing & Preparing,The Good, The Bad & The Ugly - Insects in the Garden, and Garlic: How Can Something So Healthy Taste So Good. This is an informal gathering for folks interested in learning more and meeting others who are interested in gardening. Taught by our very own Master Gardener volunteers and other local partners. 9:00-10:00am on Saturday mornings in July and August.

K-12 Student Programs

Master Gardeners team up with students from schools in District 21 to plant and plant several of the garden beds at The DIG. Students help design, plant, and care for different garden beds, as well as learn about garden ecology, food production, and pollinator habitat. These kids really take ownership and do an amazing job!

Day Camps

Master Gardeners hold day camps at The DIG in partnership with 4-H or other local non-profit organizations. What a blast! Check back next year for more information.

Story Gardens

Ever find yourself wishing there were more ways for small children to interact with a garden? At The DIG, there are several! Use the garden library to pick out a story, find its matching garden bed, and let the adventure begin! There are also fun matching shape-and-color games, a sunflower house, and an artful and secure wall to provide to safety from the riverfront trail. Feel free to explore with your families in your free time, on your own schedule.
