Project areas and opportunities including Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

The Wasco County 4-H program offers multiple programs to enrich the classroom and after-school learning in 3 school districts across Wasco County. Programs serve 1,400 students annually and include research-based curriculum and teaching materials that align with Oregon State Standards and Benchmarks. The focus of the Wasco 4-H STEM program is to improve students’ career readiness through developing 21st Century job skills and supporting schools in high quality science education.

In-School Enrichment Programs Available

Through Technology Teacher Support, 4-H staff can help classroom explore and implement technology tools and resources that will increase student productivity and collaboration.

4-H In-Class STEM Teacher Support provides a series of in-class hands-on science labs including: renewable energies (wind, solar, biofuels, and hydropower), computer science, engineering fundamentals, chemistry, properties of matter, and motion and movement. 4-H staff can assist teachers implementing their own planned units of study or scientific equipment to check out.

Robotics assistance and training is for teachers and coaches who would like to improve their mechanical engineering and programming skills. Staff can provide special instruction on teaching physics and forces of motion topics.

Horticulture

Each spring and fall, 4-H staff visit elementary classrooms with activities from Ag in the Classroom. Elementary teachers receive free literacy materials and a hands on lesson in agricultural sciences.

Every October during National 4-H Week, Wasco County 4-H participates in the 4-H National Youth Science Day. 4-H staff visit middle school science classes with the equipment and supplies needed for youth to complete the science inquiry activity.
