Natural Science & Outdoor Recreation Exhibits

This page will guide you through exhibiting your Natural Science projects at the state fair.

In the Natural Sciences project, you can display many different skills and areas of knowledge. This can be an especially fun project for youth who like to collect, organize, and label items of interest to them!

Budding aquatic ecologists and fishing enthusiasts can display aquatic flora and fauna, fishing knots, handmade lures and flies, and educational displays.

Young Entomologists can display mounted bug collections and contribute to citizen science, and youth interested in a future in Forestry or Geology can collect and display specimens from around Oregon, offering them the opportunity to explore the diversity of landscapes and biomes in our beautiful state.

Additionally, 4-H'ers can practice their communication and design skills by creating Educational Displays that inform their peers, 4-H leaders, and 1,000s of viewers at the State Fair about Natural Science topics that interest them, including Conservation, Melittology (Honeybees), Marine Science, and Outdoor Science.

Remember that your local county fair may not support every project, depending on the availability of judges or local volunteers with project expertise and interest. To display projects at the fair, you likely need to be signed up for that project and learning about it through your local 4-H Club, a short term 4-H class, or an after school program.
