This course satisfies the instructional requirement for the Oregon Certified Burn Manager program and concludes with an opportunity to take the Oregon CBM written test. Successful participants will then be able to apply to Oregon Department of Forestry for mentored prescribed fire leadership opportunities.

The course is best suited for persons who have a solid foundation in fire suppression and/or prescribed fire. Participants are expect to have knowledge of, and experience with, fire behavior, construction of control lines, fire suppression tactics, and equipment common to prescribed fires. We'll build upon that foundation to advance your prescribed fire planning and implementation skills.

This course is hosted by Oregon State University, Oregon Department of Forestry, and Deschutes County. It will include a combination of classroom and field-based instruction covering CBM legal basis, permitting and reporting requirements, burn plan assessment and basic development, resource estimation, burn prescriptions, and much more.

The sessions will be held in the training room of GFP Enterprise, 307 W. Sisters Park Drive, Sisters OR 97759, October 29 through November 1. Classes start at 0800 and conclude around 1700 each day. You must attend and fully participate in all four days of the CBM training. Driving or carpooling to field sites may be required. Participants are responsible for their own food, lodging and transportation.
