How can I keep bees away from my hummingbird feeder?

Honey bees are attracted to bird feeders during fall and late fall when there is nectar dearth (i.e. lack of flowering plants). There is no effective method to keep bees away from hummingbird feeders. They can be discouraged by keeping the feeders empty for 3 or 4 days. The bees will find another source of food and may not come back to the feeder for some time.
