Member Leadership Opportunities
Gilliam County 4-H Ambassador
You can develop leadership skills and learn how to promote positive change within your community. Gilliam County 4-H Ambassadors represent the 4-H program and Gilliam County. It is both an honor and a responsibility to serve as a role model to other young people and develop effective partnerships with adults.
Criteria
- Must be freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in high school
- Must have been in 4-H for 3 years or more years
- Must be enrolled in the 4-H Program
- Must Maintain all school work & non-failing classes.
- Attach with application Letter of recommendation: (non-family member)
- Must be available to serve from October 1, of current year – until member graduates from high school
Responsibilities include
- Help 4-H staff with a Gilliam County 4-H event
- Fair, Make and Share Day, Record Book Clinics, 4-H Fun Days, Weigh-ins, Recognition Night, New Leader Training, Benefit Dinners & More
- Assist in leading county and special ambassador fundraisers
- Promote 4-H program at local schools
- Attend a 4-H Association meeting
- Work at one or more county events (Camps, Clinics, 4-H Friday’s etc.).
- Participate in fundraisers for countywide events and special ambassador fundraisers.
- Attend and help with the annual 4-H benefit dinner and auction or other 4-H benefit.
- Help design and assemble the 4-H parade float.
- Pre-Fair events: Help at weigh-ins and Fair Cleanup Day by being there and by recruiting help.
- Fair: Help with weigh-ins, Friday’s public style show, Saturday awards and other contests.
- Attend and present at the annual awards and recognition night.

Roles of a County 4-H Ambassador
- Represent 4-H to the public.
- Be a role model to all 4-H members.
- Abide by the 4-H Code of Conduct; any infraction is cause for dismissal
- Promote 4-H to potential members and volunteers – make families and youth more aware of 4-H and the benefits it offers.
- Demonstrate the impact 4-H has on the lives of young people and the community.
- Promote 4-H to potential donors and give them opportunities to support the program.
- Be a resource to county and state 4-H staff.
