Can I save my split maple?

The ice storm split my yard maple at the junction of its only two sections. The split runs straight down the middle of trunk about 18 inches. It is pulled apart about four inches but I might be able to ratchet together with a heavy ratchet strap. After the ice melted it kind of sprung back up a bit so not hanging down as was in original break. Will I be able to save my tree?

A split like that has compromised the integrity of the tree for good. These types of wounds do not "heal" and so it will always be prone to splitting further as well as perhaps leading to further rot or disease issues. As unfortunate as it is, it would be better to remove the tree and replace it for safety reasons.
